Rahel was organizing her college cultural fest in Chennai. Registration form, WhatsApp group link, UPI payment, event schedule PDF β all different links. Her faculty advisor said "Just put everything on one page." Her tech-savvy junior said "Just make QR codes for each." One afternoon and zero budget later, their fest banner had 4 QR codes. Students loved it.
QR codes are everywhere in Indian college life now β fest registrations, club memberships, payment collection. Creating them is free and takes less than a minute.
QR Codes College Students Actually Use
Google Form Registration
Every fest, workshop, and seminar uses Google Forms. Generate a QR code linking to your form β students scan and register without typing long URLs.
WhatsApp Group Invite Link
"Join our WhatsApp group" posters with QR codes beat sharing invite links in class group chats that get buried in 200 messages.
UPI Payment
Collecting βΉ50 per head for fest t-shirts? Create a UPI QR code via GPay or PhonePe, then generate a scannable QR for your payment banner. No cash handling.
Event Schedule PDF Link
Upload your schedule to Google Drive, copy the share link, and turn it into a QR code on the fest banner. Update the PDF without reprinting if timings change.
Instagram / YouTube Channel
Promote your college club's social media with QR codes on posters. Freshers scan and follow instantly.
How to Create a QR Code in 60 Seconds
- Open the QR Code Generator
- Paste your URL, text, or UPI link
- Download the QR code image (PNG)
- Add it to your poster, banner, or PPT slide
Converting your event schedule to PDF first? Use Word to PDF to create a clean schedule document before sharing the link.
QR Code Sizing for Different Uses
Printed Banners
Minimum 3cm Γ 3cm print size. Larger is better for scanning distance β a banner viewed from 2 metres away needs at least 5cm Γ 5cm QR codes.
PPT Slides
Place QR code in a corner β about 3β4 cm on screen. Test by scanning from the back of the classroom before presenting.
ID Cards and Brochures
Smaller format β 2cm Γ 2cm minimum. Higher resolution QR (download PNG, not compressed JPEG) ensures scannability at small sizes.
Tips: Test Before Printing!
- Scan every QR code with your phone before sending to print
- Test on both Android and iPhone if possible
- Ensure the linked page works on mobile β most students scan with phones
- Keep contrast high β black QR on white background works best. Avoid coloured or inverted QR codes on fest posters
- Compress QR images for WhatsApp sharing with Image Compress if file size matters
Free vs Paid QR Code Tools
Free tools like WorkUtilities generate standard QR codes that never expire. Paid services offer analytics (scan counts, locations) and custom branding. For college fests, free is almost always enough β you don't need scan analytics for a 2-day event.
Rahel's fest had 340 registrations through QR codes on banners. Total cost: zero.
